006 [Action] [Fourth Wall]

[Toonie's just a little bit overwhelmed by all the New Feathers here - or, were they? Not all of them had wings - and is hanging out around town trying to make sense of it all. If this many people just appeared, then maybe his friends, too, would...

On the look out for anybody familiar - or anyone with pointed ears for that matter - he scans the area with his arms crossed and his brow furrowed.

...He really hopes he'll get to see Grandma and Aryll, that's for sure. Tetra would be nice too.]

A hero?

[Even after everything he went through, even after overcoming the trials, unlocking the Triforce, and defeating Demise Link still didn't consider himself a hero. Through it all, all he'd wanted was to go back to those lazy days in the sky with Zelda, when they were just people. He did what he had to do, but in the end he's just a simple guy who falls asleep in class and likes the feel of the wind in his hair.]

I didn't say it did, if that's what you want to be. [He blinks, a thought occurring.]

If you're just as much a hero, does that mean you had to go on a crazy journey too?

[He's the first, remember. He doesn't know anything at all about the others.]

[His face softens and he nods.] Yeah! Crazy is right. My sister got kidnapped by Ganondorf and I had to go save her! She's safe, but before I got here he took away my friend Tetra 'cause she had the Triforce of Wisdom! I wasn't able to help her before I was sent here - but I'll definitely save her first thing when I go home!

What? The Triforce is split? And who's Ganondorf?

[He'd said the name like it should be familiar.]

He sounds like a jerk if he's going around kidnapping people. [Kinda like Ghirahim. wait a minute...]

He doesn't have creepy purple eyebags and a disgusting wiggly tongue, does he?

W-What? ...No, of course not! Ganondorf's big and old and has red hair and an ugly beard. And he is a jerk! He has the Triforce of Power, but he wanted the whole thing, so he kidnapped a bunch of girls trying to look for Princess Zelda's descendent!

He sounds more like Demise than Ghirahim. Is his hair on fire or just.. red? It's no good if he has a piece of the Triforce. You know I-

It's just red. ...That'd be creepy if his hair was actually on fire.

[Nods.] The King told me that every princess of Hyrule was named Zelda. So that makes Tetra a Princess Zelda too. ...Do you know a Zelda, too?

Uh, well, I do, but... she's not a princess. Not really. [He rubs his neck.] There's no castle or king or anything, there's just... me and her, and a couple of our friends but they still live in the sky mostly.

The sky? ...People live in the sky!?

Well yeah. I mean, maybe not in your time anymore, but aren't there stories? The Goddess Hylia raised the land so the evil couldn't get the people. Ahh, but maybe she didn't want that spread around since she's really... hmm...

[He shakes his head.] I never heard of that. I never heard of Hylia, either, just the three Goddesses.

[...Ding!]

Oh! Hylia, Hylian... is she who Hyrule was named after? [HE'S SO SMART!!]

[A blink.] I guess so? If the land's called Hyrule now. We didn't really have a name for it, just "the surface". Different areas had names though, depending on what dragon ruled it. I don't know if that's the same for you.

It's not. I don't, um... I don't live in Hyrule. I live on an ocean called the Great Sea. But I've been there for a little bit once, and it's a great big kingdom! [That's flooded. But YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW THAT.]

Really? How big? Was there a castle? The old legends said there used the be a kingdom and we talked about building a castle. I think Zelda was just humoring me, but if there's really princesses named after her and a great big kingdom of Hyrule, maybe we did!

It was really big!! There was a huge castle there; it was really pretty! And there was a statue of the Hero of Time, and beneath the statue was where they put the Master Sword! That's where I got it!

[You'll notice a familiar hilt on his back...]

The Hero of Time? [Oh Goddess I hope that's not what they called me. I told Groose and Zelda I didn't want anything like that!

He looks a little disconcerted as he continues to listen, then startled at his younger counterpart's mention of the Master Sword.]

You have Fi...?

Uh-huh! He's the other bigger Link here.

Huh? ...Is that what you call the Master Sword? [He draws the blade, examining it curiously.] I didn't know it had another name...

There's another one? Geeze.

[Well, at least I'm not the Hero of Time. I wonder what they say I am the hero of, huh.]

[His thoughts are interrupted when Toonie draws the oh so familiar blade from his back, eyes drawn to it like a magnet.]

Yes, her spirit as a name. She goes by Fi.

[He says it tentatively, half hoping she'll show herself if he says her name, as if he'll summon her, but from the condition of the sword - much duller than he remembered - he doesn't think it likely.]

[His eyes go wide as he turns the sword in his hands.] No way... I knew it was special, but - I didn't know somebody lived in it! How come I never got to meet her...?

When I'm from, I defeated a great evil, a god called Demise, and the last bits of him were absorbed into the sword to be purified.

[He reaches out a hand as if to touch the blade, but thinks the better of it and drops it back in his lap.]

I think, maybe, she can't talk anymore because of that.

[And it's my fault...]

Really?

[He looks at him, then at the Master Sword, then back to him. He notices his sadness, so he gives him a little smile and offers the sword to him.]

...You can hold it if you want. I'm sure she'd like to see you again, even if she can't talk.

[A bit of pink spreads on Link's cheeks.]

Ah, is it that obvious? I'm sorry.

[But still he takes the sword carefully, almost lovingly. He hops to his feet and swings it a few times experimentally, left and right as the drill instructor taught him, and raises it high above his head. A brief shine goes up the blade and an arc of pure energy is released for a brief distance, angled away from Toonie or any other objects or people of course. With a small sigh, Link brings the sword in close again, looking at it as one would an old friend, then hands it back to his younger incarnation just as carefully as he took it.]

Thank you. I hope she's been as helpful to you as she was to me.

Whoa!!

[He freezes, staring at the older Link, before slowly taking back the sword.]

W-Wow... how'd you do that!? I didn't know it - she - could do that!!

What, that? That's a skyward strike! Fi taught it to me to help me out. If you want I can show you. You can do all kinds of things with it, like get items from special walls and cubes and draw on things sometimes. It helps defeat enemies at a distance too, or if they have heavy armor. You can even activate special switches with it!

[elixirsoup]

That's... [He suddenly pouts, whiny and indignant.] That's not fair! Nobody told me I could do that! That would have been really really helpful...!

[Then he looks intensely at the other hero.]

You've gotta teach me! Us Links, we've gotta help each other out, right!? Right!?

[Toonie's vehemence took Skyward aback a bit.] Guh.. uh.. sure! Of course! I mean, we're basically the same, right?

[Right, save for the outcome of his battle had led to Fi being unable to help his descendants. It's entirely possible that Toonie's trouble with this Ganondorf could be because of Demise's curse, as well.

What if it is my fault?

He swallowed, hoping the younger Link didn't see the guilt that began to weigh heavily on his shoulders.]
